Practical shooting including NRA target SHOTGUN, IPSC SHOTGUN, MINI RIFLE & LPB

We offer a range of dynamic and competitive shooting disciplines at HPRPC, including:

  • Target Shotgun at Bisley (Slug – FAC required)

  • IPSC / Practical Shotgun

  • Mini Rifle (.22LR)

  • LPB (Long Barrel Pistol)

All dates are advertised to members via internal communication (WhatsApp)

TARGET SHOTGUN

Target Shotgun (TS) includes competitive shotgun shooting disciplines excluding clay shooting.

Slug (FAC Required) – Bisley

We shoot solid slug (single projectile) events at Bisley under NRA rules. These competitions are similar in format to Gallery Rifle matches and are fired at paper targets.

Events include:

  • Gallery-style slug matches

  • Long-range slug shooting at 50 yards

Requirements:

  • Section 1 shotgun

  • Slugs authorised on FAC

  • NRA SCC

NRA practical shotgun is very similar to IPSC shotgun and there is an NRA targets hotgun course for members. 

IPSC/PRACTICAL SHOTGUN

IPSC Shotgun is the fastest-growing dynamic discipline where competitors face different courses of fire at each match.

Each stage challenges:

  • Speed

  • Accuracy

  • Movement

  • Shotgun handling skills

  • Decision making

  • Stage planning and strategy
     

Competitors shoot against the clock under supervision of a Range Officer using an electronic timer. The fastest shooter with the fewest penalties wins.

Stages may include:

  • Paper and reactive steel targets

  • Moving targets (where facilities allow)

  • 1–30 targets per stage

  • Distances from 5–100 metres 
     

Cartridge restriction: Fibre wad only, up to and including size 7.5.

Cost: £12 (includes 1 box of cartridges)
Section 1 and Section 2 divisions may be advertised separately.

INTRODUCTION TO TARGET SHOTGUN SAFETY COURSE

Purpose:
Enables sign-off and SCC qualification required to participate in club shotgun events at Bisley and competitions.

Suitable for:

  • Shooters new to Target Shotgun

  • Not suitable for new probationers unless active members of other clubs

Club Section 2 guns will be used unless attendees own a Section 1 shotgun.

Course format:

  • 1–1.5 hours classroom session

  • Extensive range time

  • Covers slug and practical shooting formats

  • Written assessment at end of day
     

Cancellation policy:
Cancellations within 14days require full payment unless your place can be filled from the waitlist.

PRACTICAL SHOOTING MASTERCLASSES 

Delivered by GB champions at HPRPC or our affiliated club Sterling Sport Club Hampshire, Purpose:

  • Identify areas for improvement

  • Develop tailored drills

  • Introduce measurable performance metrics

Suitable for: Advanced practical shooters 

Cancellation policy applies (14-day rule).

MINI RIFLE (.22LR)

Mini Rifle is a dynamic shooting discipline using .22 rimfire rifles.

Scoring is based on:

  • Accuracy (target hits)

  • Time to complete the stage

No two matches are the same. Courses of fire vary by event and venue.

Stages may include:

  • Static and reactive targets

  • Moving targets (where facilities allow)

  • 1–30 targets

  • 5–100 metres
     

Highest two hits per target are normally scored.

Practice / Matches (HPRPC Members Only)

Purpose:

  • Familiarisation with discipline

  • Speed loading practice

  • Safety sign-off progression
     

Attendance supports practical Mini Rifle sign-off.

Requirements:

  • Signed off for Gallery .22 and .38

  • (Optional) UKPSA safety course 

  • For competitions: HPRPC sign-off OR valid NRA / UKPSA / IPSC certificate

Cost: £12 (includes 50 rounds of .22 and targets)

NATIONAL MINI RIFLE COMPETITIONS (NRA or UKPSA level 2)

HPRPC is part of the NRA Mini Rifle League and hosts competitions open to shooters nationwide.

We also host UKPSA level 2 competitions.

 

Requirements:

  • NRA / UKPSA / IPSC certificate / SCC

  • HPRPC SCC for Mini Rifle and Gallery

Club guns available for hire, though owning your own is recommended.

Ammunition available for purchase on the day.
Cost: TBC

Cancellation policy applies (14-day rule).

LPB (LONG BARREL PISTOL)

LPB events provide members with the opportunity to participate in practical-style pistol shooting within UK legal requirements.

Courses of fire may include:

  • Static and dynamic stages

  • Paper and steel targets

  • Timed stages

  • Movement where range design permits

Requirements:

  • Appropriate club sign-off

  • NRA / HPRPC SCC or UKPSA/IPSC certificate (as applicable)

  • Own compliant LPB firearm

Details of calibres and course formats will be advertised in advance.

Cost: £12 per practice (ammunition not included unless stated)

 

UKPSA PRACTICAL SAFETY COURSE (LONG GUN & SHOTGUN)

We offer the official UKPSA Practical Safety Course for members wishing to compete in practical shooting disciplines.

This course is suitable for shooters looking to compete in:

  • IPSC Shotgun

  • Practical Mini rifle 

  • IPSC Rifle 

  • For shortgun LBP, LBR or Action Air

Certification enables participation in UKPSA-sanctioned matches and is recognised as an equivalent SCC where applicable.

Requirements:

  • HPRPC membership

  • Appropriate firearm certification and prior competency for LBP/LBR

  • Existing club sign-off required depending on discipline

Successful candidates will receive UKPSA certification.

Cost: TBC

GENERAL NOTES

  • Weather-appropriate clothing must be worn — events take place outdoors.

  • Approved targets only will be used.

  • All stages are designed to comply with HPRPC range limitations.

  • A waitlist is maintained for all courses and masterclasses.
