About the Club

petershamcertHam and Petersham Rifle and Pistol Club Ltd, is a private shooting club based in Ham, near the River Thames and close to Ham House. We are incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee so we are not a commercial business.According to an early Annual Report the club was officially founded on the 7th April 1906. (Although there is now evidence that the Club actually started as early as 1903.) In fact Charles Hanbury-Tracy, the 4th Lord Sudeley was the President of the Ham & Petersham Rifle & Pistol Club from its official inception in 1906 until his death.

Lord Roberts Range 100ydThese days the Club operates large shooting grounds, with 6 outdoor ranges from 25 yards to 100 yards in length, which are used for archery , air guns, .22, .38, .44 and .45 calibre rifles and Black Powder pistols. Inside the Clubhouse there is a general purpose 25 metre range and a .177 air pistol and air rifle ten metre range.

Visitors are especially catered for on ‘Guest Mornings’ the first Sunday of each month. On those “guest days” we can show you around (see info on tours on the Guest Mornings page) and tell you about the Club. An experienced member will introduce you to the shooting discipline you may be interested in. To find out where we are, click here.

Fowler_smallThe Club runs a number of competitions in all the disciplines throughout the year.

Whilst full members are able to use their own firearms (once they are in possession of a firearms certificate or shotgun certificate) and bows, the Club also has a wide selection of equipment for hire at £3 per session. This is particularly helpful to new and probationary members as it allows them to try a variety of firearms and disciplines (under supervision where applicable). We also sell targets and ammunition.

Both the duty office and bar are managed by members of the Committee who are volunteers, and who try their best to keep to official opening times.

The Club is a lively and social place and new members are always welcome.  In addition to a summer BBQ, we also celebrate Guy Fawkes night with a fantastic fireworks display, a charity raffle, live music and food.
