Come
down to the Club as a Visitor first. Check out the Visitor and Guest Day pages if you
haven't already done so. They also contain details of how to get to the
club.
You may visit up to four times, after that you must join. If you feel
you like us, like shooting, and want to join the club, the next step is
to have an interview.
The interview is with two members of the Committee. This is quite
informal and is mainly to ensure that you know all about the Club.We
will also need to take some personal details. Joining a shooting club
is subject to some safeguards by law. Considering the potential dangers
this is not surprising.
We will then send you a Membership form to your home
address. This is a legal requirement. Fill this form in and bring
it back to the Club (DO NOT POST IT!) with the fee
and four Passport photographs. The Duty Officer will check the form,
fill out a membership card and you will become a Probationary Member
for three months. Keep checking the office window each visit until you
see your red identity card displayed. When you do, then ask the Duty
Officer for it. Please wear it prominently.
During this three months the hire of guns and bows is
free, with the exception of black powder pistols. All you need to pay
for are targets and ammunition. At the beginning, you will always be
accompanied by an experienced member when you shoot. S/he will instruct
you in range safety, protocols, and will teach you how to shoot. Your
supervisor will be responsible for your behaviour and safety, and will
look after the gun or bow, i.e. be responsible for transporting it
between the office and the range.
You will need to attend and shoot at least 12 times during
the three month probationary period, but you may come more often, and
in fact you are welcome to attend whenever the club is open. Make sure
your probationary membership card is signed by the Duty Officer at each
shooting visit (your proof of visit, the Committee will check). If you
are having difficulty attending because of work or personal commitments
then please see the hon. secretary (ask at the office) something can
always be worked out to help.
After the three months are completed, you can apply to the
Committee to become a full member. The membership fee will be pro rata
for the year, so someone who becomes a full member in August will pay
5/12ths of the full years membership for the remainder of the calendar
year.
