Also known as the Sudeley Trophy No 1

HistoryThe Houseboat Trophy is a silver model of a houseboat with a tennis court on top. There are a set of figures which can be set up to play a game of tennis. The makers mark is CHT which is probably Charles Hanbury Tracy (otherwise known as the 4th Lord Sudeley), first President of the Club and a noted amateur silversmith. The Trophy was first competed for in 1926, four years after the death of Lord Sudeley. The plaque mentions the LGOC (Kingston) and the first winner is shown as from Kingston Garage LGOC. Up until at least 1938, this Trophy was for the Summer of the Bus Garage, although its title changed to the London Passenger Transport Board in about 1936. Even as late as 1967, the London Transport Rifle Club held its meeting at Ham & Petersham. There is also another similar Trophy around with which it may be confused. When the Club won the Alexandra Trophy outright in about 1907 a houseboat Trophy was put up by the club for inter-Club competition. The 1909 picture of the Trophies won that year shows the other Houseboat. It has four windows rather than three and the ladders seem to be slightly different.Winners |
