History

The Cup was presented in July 1911 by the Earl of Dysart to the Ham & Petersham Rifle Club for Annual Competition. From the names on the Cup it seems to have been the prize in several different types of competitions. From at least 1919 until 1925 it was used for the Boys Team Competition as set out beneath.

"DYSART " CHALLENGE CUP

Two targets of 10 shots each at 25 yards. Unlimited sighters. 1st Prize, Challenge Cup and Six Bronze Medals (if three or more teams enter).

The "Calvert Smith" Challenge Cup will be awarded to the individual competitor making the highest nett aggregate score in the Competition.

The "Fowler" Challenge Cup will be awarded to the competitor making the highest nett aggregate score from the teams representing the Ham School, the Petersham School and the Petersham Boy Scouts.

These cups will be held by their respective winners for one year.

In 1928 and 1929 the Dysart was the prize in the Special Constabulary Team Competition. However, lack of entries forced this to close and from 1931 the Course of Fire was a handicap of 2 targets of 10 shots each at 25, 50 and 100 yards.
